What? Pets have been kept by humans since prehistoric times? Are they friends of the dinosaurs?
The timing and reason dog becomes domesticated are still yet to be discovered. However, scientific evidence shows that dogs separated from their wolf ancestors around 27,000 - 40,000 years ago. The oldest dog burial found is from approximately 14,200 years ago, which means dogs were domesticated as human pets back then.
As for cats, they have spread from Asia and into Europe at around 4400 B.C or so. The cats were estimated to start living with humans about 8,000 years ago!
Even though our furry friends did not share the same period with dinosaurs, they certainly existed way before we could imagine!
