【VMC Vets Tips | Hairball issue in cats - 2】

As hairballs may cause potential health issues for cats, though complete avoidance of hairball formation is impossible, here are some tips for you to help minimize the risks to protect your cats from hairballs.

1. Groom your cat regularly. Combing or brushing your cat regularly can be an effective way to minimize hairballs and also a fun way for you to bond with your cat. Alternatively, schedule a haircut regularly for your cat.

Y2. Give your cat a specialized “hairball formula” cat food. These high-fiber formulas are designed to improve the health of your cat’s coat, minimize the amount of shedding, and encourage hairballs in cats to pass through the digestive system.

3. Discourage excessive grooming. If you observe that your cat’s hairball issue is a result of intensive self-grooming, try to distract your cat with other enjoyable activities instead. This might include teaching them to play with a new toy on their own or finding a fun toy you can play with your cat together.
