We learnt about the signs of flea infestation this Wednesday, let’s continue with the treatment and prevention today.
Treatment:
It is easy for you to diagnose this condition as the signs are obvious. But once a flea infestation has developed in a household it can take several weeks to months to eliminate the problem. You should consult a veterinarian about how to get rid of fleas. There are a number of possible treatments:
1. Fleas can be killed when you give a bath to your pet using anti-flea shampoo or anti-flea powder, but this is not a permanent solution.
2. The application of topical medication can kill all fleas on the skin, while wearing anti-flea collars can prevent reoccurrence in the future. Oral medication for the control of fleas is also available.
3. Clean all the belongings of your pet with hot water. Vacuum wood floors, carpets and furniture.
Prevention:
Here are some tips to prevent the spread of fleas:
1. Clean all the belongings of your pet every week.
2. Clean your house several times a week to remove the eggs of fleas and stop their multiplication.
3. Use anti-flea spray.
4. Persistent flea control and administer preventive products to all pets in the household all year round.
