With the arrival of summer, venomous snakes are out and about! Some of them can be lethal to our pets, and keep your furry friend safe from snake bites! Let's learn more about that:

Snake venom is made up of a cocktail of toxins causing damaging effects on tissues, blood, and the cardiac and nervous systems. Venom serves to immobilise the snakes prey and aid in digestion of tissue. The venom also serves to protect the snake.

CityU VMC carries several types of antivenom (also known as antivenin) to treat snake envenomation. We are able to support the most critical cases with advanced care, if required which includes not only drugs but mechanical ventilation, also knowns as “life support” if any furry friend is bitten by a neurotoxic snake such as a Krait or Cobra.
