As high temperature can cause heatstroke, dehydration in our furry friends, keep an eye out for these possible warning signs:
- Heavy panting
- Distressed and being restless
- Drooling and bright red gums and tongue
- Collapse, unwilling to continue walking or running, stumbling
- Vomiting or diarrhea
- this condition can lead to multiple organ failure and death
If you suspect your pet may be suffering from heat stroke, follow the following steps:
- IMMEDIATELY remove the pet from the hot environment
- IMMEDIATELY seek veterinary care. Heat stroke is a life-threatening medical emergency
- If available, wet the fur with room-temperature water
- DO NOT cover the pet with towels
- DO NOT use ice to cool the pet
- DO NOT force the pet to drink water
